NEW GAME SHOWS US WHAT REALLY HAPPENS WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE

"This month, Seven Lights launches the open beta for its collectible online war game, The Continuum, finally doing for gamedom what party mix did for regular old Chex. Now all our favorites-- fantasy role-playing, spell combinations, item collectibility, character customization, real-time battlefield tactics, and minis strategy-- are mixed together into one browser-supported PC game.

A comic book series launches in tandem with the game featuring the escapades of in-game characters like Sky, a half-man/half-wolf shapeshifter, and Thomas, the light-wielding vampire hunter, who are diverted from their initial conflicts when their once-separate worlds begin colliding. Best these characters online and Seven Lights is not only promising players the chance to find their adventures chronicled in pen and ink, but even more enticing, players will gain the heroes' unique items.

As for the game itself, players start by placing their units on a gridded map sized according to the agreed-upon guidelines. Here the unit commanders represent their respective warbands, and players are free to move around the interdimensionally-mismatched terra of Crossworld, charging into the fray or hunting up the boatloads of treasure, the round-the-clock Continuum team will be hiding there.

The combat screen itself shows a subsection of the battlefield, with all the individual troops in both units, as well as a timer for each turn and command icons. Players issue simultaneous commands, with the games engine tabulating the results and assigning "buffs" (or advantages) based on tactical decisions each turn. Taken as a whole, the combat experience should play out similar to speed chess, with both players racing to make tactically and strategically sound decisions, then watching their forces become the thwompers or the thwompees of live combat.

Needless to say, The Continuum is hella complex, but in a universe where planes of existence are colliding, mixing shapeshifters with vampires and element-wielding humanoids with an insidious worldwide empire, you're bound to have that. The only advice we can give you is to log onto www.thecontinuum.com as soon as possible and get your free beta character packs to ensure you're not left baffled by all the chaos."
